FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

1. Will TaeKwon-Do make my child more violent?

Answer: Family Academy of Martial Arts teaches self-defense, not aggression. Students learn that martial arts is a way of handling themselves in a problematic situation. Rather than aggression, assertiveness is taught so that students develop self-esteem & confidence while developing discipline & character.

2. What are the benefits of studying TaeKwon-Do?

Answer: TaeKwon-Do’s high repetition, low resistance movements develop a longer, leaner, and more flexible musculature.  Added benefits:

a. Helps lungs operate more efficiently

b. Enlarges blood vessels, making them more pliable and reducing the resistance to blood flow and lowering blood pressure.

c. Increases blood supply, especially red blood cells and hemoglobin.

d. Makes the body tissue healthier in supplying it with more oxygen.

e. Conditions the heart, providing more reserve for emergencies.

f. Promotes better sleep and waste elimination.

Training tends to be a normalizer of body weight in that it results in a gain of solid tissue for the underweight & a loss of body fat for the obese or overweight. The estimated calorie-consumption for a vigorous TaeKwon-Do workout is about 600 calories per hour, on of the highest for any sports activity.

In addition to these benefits, TaeKwon-Do training also helps to improve overall concentration, teaches self-discipline, develops self-esteem & confidence, as well as promoting a sense of calmness.

3. I’m too old and/or out of shape to start TaeKwon-Do!

Answer: No person is too old to begin to get healthy! At Family Academy of Martial Arts we place a high emphasis on individual training. No one is forced to go beyond  their own body type or fitness/health level. Class size is small, ensuring that individual attention is given to everyone. Fitness is achieved one step at a time.  Start where you are and achieve your own personal best – NOT someone else’s!

4. I have injuries that make some movements impossible or difficult for me.

Answer: At Family Academy of Martial Arts we place a high emphasis on personal best. Any person, regardless of physical and/or mental ability, including the handicapped, can achieve increases in physical fitness, self-defense knowledge, confidence, and discipline. Make sure that the instructor is aware of your limitations and we have help you improve your strengths while downplaying your weaknesses.
